Meet Our Church Staff
SAPP, JOHN; (Staff)56

Bro. John R. Sapp
I was raised in an Air Force family and lived my formative years on military bases in Florida, California, and the Philippines.  I’m so thankful for Christian parents who took me to church. Jesus knocked on the door of my heart when I was 8 years old and I invited Him in, to forgive me and to change me… Best choice I’ve ever made!  My college days were in Hattiesburg, MS at William Carey University.  It was there I met Paula and married her in 1978.  I got a Church Music degree there, but the Good Lord called me to preach shortly after.  I went on to the SBC seminary in New Orleans and have been preaching since 1980, pastoring churches in Louisiana, Alabama and Mississippi. I love to play guitar, read, and work outdoors.  It’s been my privilege to serve FBC Lumberton as pastor since 2008:  I’m blessed!

Joan Odom
Graduate of Orange Park High School who became a qualified Medical Transcriptionist was employed by Forrest General Hospital. Seeking to improve herself, Joan returned to the classroom and is now a graduate of the University of Phoenix with a degree in Healthcare Administration. After obtaining that degree, she went to work for Hattiesburg Health and Rehabilitation as the Admissions Coordinator.
As the daughter of a pastor and a teacher, she learned the necessity of a personal relationship with Christ. She developed a heart that decided to follow her God in all things. Because of that love for her God, she is a person who has a deep love for family, friends, and people whom she does not even know. This love brought her to First Baptist Church of Lumberton as church secretary, since this job allows her to be a beacon on the hill, which shows forth the love of God.
